China's chi-pao (or cheongsam) is understood as the "Chinese dress" in English.

Chi-pao is the shortened form of "Qiren changpao" (robe of the Man people), and "Qiren" refers to the Man people, who constitute one of the minority ethnic groups in China.

Although chi-pao originated in the Man culture, it goes beyond it. The mixing of ethnic groups has witnessed constant changes in the design of chi-pao. It may well be said that chi-pao is the outcome of the mixing of China's various ethnic dress cultures. The chi-pao we see today, which is labeled as the "Chinese dress", actually refers to its style of the 1930s. Its main features are as follows: thinner waistline, skin tight, a standup collar, hemline that can be lowered or raised and slits on the sides.

These are the knots coiled up by lists, called the flower-setting button. It is a unique characteristic of the ancient Chinese dress and an important ornament on chi-pao.

Because chi-pao's delicacy and gracefulness can well present the curve of the female body, nowadays more and more women like to wear chi-pao.
